Twenty-One Pages from
The Manual on Dismantling God
Both in process and in viewing them, these pages investigate the possibilities of breaking down that dichotomy between one’s self and other by compelling the viewer to “read” the visual language intuitively. In this manner, the mind moves toward the unfolding present where one’s preconceptions, biases, and general baggage do not cloud the experience.
This project is not about the page specifically, as if they have some sort of literal or mystical meaning. Rather, for me as an artist, this project is about the process of exploring meaning and relationships. The title refers more specifically to the breaking down of the idea of an anthropomorphic God. In retrospect, this “breaking down,” has been a long and subliminal process inspired by a general exploring of ideas and meanings over the years. Philip Sugden
